Are your electrics safe?

If your property is over 25 years old, its time to check your electrical system. Unless your system has been upgraded within the last 10 years, its very likely it may need to be replaced. At Burridge Electrical we offer a free visual inspections on all local installations.

There are a number of reasons to rewire a home, but the most common is peace of mind with regards to safety. Old or faulty electrics can lead to fires or electric shock. Faulty Electrics are responsible for thousands of fires and hundreds of electrical shock accidents in UK homes each year. With the introduction of residual current devices (RCD's), arc fault detection devices (AFDD's)and surge protection devices (SPD's), the risk of fire and fatal shock is massively reduced, providing your system is installed to BS7671 of the electrical wiring regulations and carried out by Part P registered electricians.

Many rewires are carried out when people by new homes or before any redecorations, we have come across clients that needed a rewire after they have decorated. If you are considering any building works such as conversions , extensions or even a new kitchen for example, you should get an electrician to carry out a condition report before any building works or decorating is started as this may highlight any issues before its too late and becomes costly.

With having your home rewired, it means that you can customise and organise your electrical system such as having sockets in preferred locations, additional lighting or the latest electrical gadgets.Each rewire is never the same and tailored to suit your requirements.

Some signs your electrics are out dated

• Sockets mounted in the skirting boards
• Lights and switches mounted on wood
• Minimal amount of sockets such as one per bedroom
• Re-wirable fuses
• Braided flex cables
• Rubber insulated cables
• Fuses regularly blowing
• Lack of earthing at switches and lights
• Signs of thermal damage at socket outlets
