FAQs about house rewires in Bristol

A lot of people become concerned if their home requires a rewire, this post is to try and ease your concerns and answer the most commonly asked questions when we take on a rewire.

Will there be power in my home?

A rewire is a complete over haul of the properties electrical installation, this means that all original / old cabling will be removed and new circuits will be installed. In order to work safely the power will be isolated for the whole duration, in some cases where power is essential to stay on we have removed and rewired 1 circuit at a time, this is more time consuming and may cost more to complete.

What do I need to do before the electrician starts the rewire?

Before any work is started , we need your input on the location of socket outlets and switches, if you change your mind on locations it may end up costing more as we may have to undo and re-do any work already installed, however to avoid this make sure you are happy about all your options before to committing to anything.

The rewire of your property can be very messy, all rooms need to be as clear as possible, any furniture to be covered and valuable items to be removed

Do you make good after?

As a full time electrician we solely focus on being electricians and we do not claim to be decorators / plasterers etc. If we are chasing walls it would be best to contact a qualified plasterer to fill in all chases once we have completed the work.

Can I still live in the property during the rewire?

Rewires are very disruptive , If its possible you can move out during the project. Some home owners do not have that option and remain in the property whilst the rewire is being carried out , unfortunately this effects time scale of the project and costs could increase for occupied properties. This will be asked during the quoting stage.

Will I get a certificate after?

All rewires should be certificated and the local building authority must be notified, you will only get this with registered electricians. If you get an unregistered electrician to carry out the work then do not expect a registered electrician to come around after to sign it off , no decent electrician will sign off some one else's electrical work!To avoid this disaster always look into who you want to hire and you can ask for their certificates and proof of registration and insurances

If you're still in doubt, contact a qualified electrician for advice.
