Some FAQs for EV charging

Do I need a home charging station?

No you don't have to, but most people that own an electric car wants the convenience of charging at their home

Where would the home charger be installed?

EV chargers would be installed in a garage or the outside wall of your property, within charging distance of the vehicle


Are all EV chargers eligible for the grant

Unfortunately,there are some EV chargers that does not come under the home grant scheme, a list can be found on the government website


Do I need a survey carried out before the installation?

A home survey is normally required, as we need specific details of your current electrical installation. We can do a remote home survey, but this may not be the case with all enquiries.


Where can I charge my electric vehicle

The number of Electric charging points are rapidly increasing.However, charging your electric vehicle at home is by far the most convenient method.

  • At home
  • At work
  • At public charging stations

What is Modes 1,2 & 3 charging

There are 4 commonly adopted charging methods, called modes. For home charging stations we are going to list modes 1,2 & 3


Mode 1

  • Connection of the electric vehicle to socket outlets not exceeding 16A
  • A simple charging cable not fixed to a control box or the vehicle
  • This is no longer mainstream charging technology

  • Mode 2

    This is similar to mode 1 charging

  • A 16A socket is to be installed
  • The charging cable must have a in-cable control box incorporating a RCD for personnel protection from electric shock

  • Mode 3

    This is the most common installation

  • This is a connection between an electric vehicle (EV) and a electric vehicle supply equipment(EVSE)
  • You can have a EVSE as a dedicated socket-outlet or a EVSE with a tethered charging cable

  • Can I install an EV charger myself?

    No you must use a registered electrician
